Former Director of Technical Services at The Home Builders Federation and Chief Building Surveyor for the London Borough of Richmond Upon Thames. He was previously employed in local authority building control in and around London and spent ten years as a visiting lecturer at the School of Construction, Housing and Surveying at the University of Westminster. Mr Baker was awarded an OBE for services to the construction industry in 2013.

Former Deputy Chief Executive and Industry Affairs Director at the Construction Products Association, where he had a remit for technical policy and regulatory issues. He is a Non-Executive Director of the Zero Carbon Hub, a member of BRAC and an NHBC Council Member.

Currently President of The Consortium of European Building Control and a director of CICAIR Ltd - Construction Industry Council Approved Inspector Register Ltd; He was formally Business Development Manager with the RICS Building Control Professional Group and a Governing Board Member of the British Board of Agrément. He was Chief Building Control Officer at Ipswich Borough Council and Non Executive Director of MLM Building Control. Mr. Smith was a member of BRAC for ten years and he chaired the Part E Sound BRAC Working Party that considered the current changes to sound requirements in the Building Regulations. Mr Smith was awarded an MBE in 2014 for services to Building Control and voluntary service in Suffolk.

A Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, he is currently a business adviser to a number of house-builder companies. Mr Nevett was formerly Chairman of privately-owned development companies as well as a Director of Berkeley Homes plc and Regional Managing Director of Crest Homes.
